  • The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in our body that runs from the brain down through the body connecting many organs, such as the throat, lungs, heart, and intestines. It is also in charge of our autonomic nervous system and helps regulate our parasympathetic state or rest and digest. By "toning" this nerve you can help your body calm down more effectively after an episode of fight or flight and keep a more stable sympathetic nervous system.   • Download the balance: meditation and sleep app. This app is personalized to you and your needs and has foundations courses that walk you through different meditation styles and why they are so beneficial. It starts with 3 minutes a day and builds on itself with each course. I highly recommend starting a daily mediation practice. Work it into a routine so you don't miss this incredibly healing step in your day. 
  • I also like the breathwrk app for learning breathing exercises that can relax, sooth, energize, uplift or calm you. 
  • Castor oil packs are one of my favorite things to do to unwind at night. The castor oil applied on top of the skin moves the bile and energy through the liver and common bile ducts and is a great detoxifier. Think of the bile duct as a straw and when it gets backed up the bile cannot flow easily through and needs some dilation. I typically apply a hot water bottle over the castor oil pack and elevate my legs a bit on a pillow(make sure to put a towel under you and wear something you don't mind getting stained with a little oil.
